Staying Indoors on a Beautiful Minnesota Summer Day

Is there a busier time of the year than the summer? With family trips, weekly excursions to the lake, outdoor music festivals, baseball games, and getting in a game of golf whenever possible, often times there are few weekends free if any. That particularly goes for Minnesotans, since, unlike those living in traditionally warm-weather climates, our window of opportunity to enjoy these activities is a bit narrower than most, to say the least.

If you are running for elected office, the summer months are even more demanding. Meet and greets, parades and door-knocking drives combined with the above mentioned activities will barely enable most to even catch their breath. So, if an event is scheduled on a beautiful Saturday summer day Minnesota, it certainly better be worth your time, right?

Well, that certainly was the case, at least in the minds of candidates running for local and state office in Minnesota last Saturday. Candidates running for the state senate and house, state supreme court, county commissioner, county attorney, city council and soil and water supervisor were all in attendance. They even traveled from distances that were over 300 miles away from our training location in Maple Grove! The candidates and activists present shared several things in common, but the one overarching theme that was present was the fact that they understood that the only way they can change our country’s direction is to get involved at the local level.

They were also eager to learn about ways to use the tools and resources promoted by American Majority that are available to most but are seldom used effectively. But most importantly, they firmly grasped the reasoning that taking a short break from the campaign trail to learn new techniques to that they could then adapt to their campaigns would improve their chances of success come this fall.

Yes, I’m sure if you asked most in attendance they had a list a mile long of other things they could have been doing last Saturday. But in my humble opinion, if you asked them as they were leaving our training if they regretted their decision to stay indoors for the day, most, if not all, would have said “heck no!”
