From Talking to Walking

April 21, 2010

Okay the rally is over, the signs are put away and now what?  Now is the time we separate the talk from the walk.  Each time I share with a group of people I ask this question:

What are you personally willing to invest today to ensure freedom and liberty tomorrow?

Here in Arkansas we have a primary on May18th. Start by finding out what is on your ballot. Each county clerk office has available a sample ballot, it is vital that voters are armed with knowledge before they enter the voting booth.

Once you have taken the time to preview the ballot, get the word out. Make others in your community aware of what they will be voting on. You may have a tax increase or a special election in addition to candidate races. If there is a tax increase or special election find out the details.

Here are some practical ways YOU can get information out helping others become informed, engaged and empowered:

  • Connect online using social media tools like facebook and twitterAmerican Majority has some awesome tutorials to help or attend one of our trainings. (see below)
  • LIP (local is power) Keep it local. Find people in your area that share your concerns, take turns going to public meetings such as city council, school board and quorum court; take notes, collaborate and get the information out.
  • Write letters to the editor of your local paper. Make sure you use facts, address local issues and keep ranting to a minimum
  • Find candidates who reflect your beliefs, donate your time, money and energy to their campaigns- be sure and vet them properly.
  • Join a local coalition of like-minded people. Ask us we know of organizations across the state. You will need a support group, the bigger your pool of people the less work that falls on anyone individual
  • And finally define your efforts to limited government, fiscal responsibility and free markets. This is not about republicans, democrats or any other party, this is about Americans.

American Majority Arkansas is currently traveling the state of Arkansas making stops in over 50 cities. If you don’t see one near you call us and we will schedule one. https://www.americanmajority.org/arkansas/events/

Thanks for mentioning Ballotpedia. We’re starting a section of articles on state legislative elections and candidates. There will be over 5,000 elections to state legislative seats this November and we’d love help building articles about these elections and candidates.
