Campaign-In-A-Day visits Concordia University Wisconsin

FINAL VERSION
May 14, 2019

American Majority is working to train the next generation of conservative leaders. One way we do this is through going onto college campuses to train conservative college students through Campaign-In-A-Day. This April we had the privilege of bringing the American Majority Campaign-In-A-Day Snapshot event to students at Concordia University Wisconsin. The Snapshot is the condensed version of the full Campaign-In-A-Day event to give attendees a taste of what they would get from the full day. Throughout the campaign simulation, students were tasked with putting together a campaign plan and defending it to the judges, whilst going head to head with their election day opponent. At the end of the day, three candidates were declared the winners of their races, but more importantly students on both sides came away with knowledge to help them in real life campaigns, which was reflected in their feedback.

Anonymous feedback forms were given to students by their professor at the next class time, and 29 out of the 29 students in attendance recommended Campaign-In-A-Day for future students. One student saying, “Yes [I would recommend Campaign-In-A-Day Snapshot to future students], I think that it was a fun resource to develop a greater understanding of the process as a whole.”

Students have affirmed what we hope to bring to attendees of Campaign-In-A-Day events. We want students to have the necessary tools to be able to help run a campaign, as another student believes, “I would feel more prepared to run a campaign because there are certain strategies to know and I have more of an idea on how to use them.” The event puts students on their toes to figure out how to think critically through real life scenarios, “Yes [I feel more prepared to run a campaign], because we were asked tough questions. We had to figure out how to put ourselves out there positively in the time we had.”

This training is also unique, because it’s meant to be hands on, fun, and interactive to help better drive home the learning experiences throughout the event. Students added their thoughts on that aspect responding, “I enjoyed it [Campaign-In-A-Day Snapshot]! It was an exciting way to learn about how a campaign works.” As well as, “My favorite parts were being able to present in front of the people because it gave us a better understanding of [what] a campaign would be like.”

CIAD training is integral to give confidence to those who aren’t sure how they could help or who are intimidated by the prospect of campaigning. Campaign-In-A-Day over these last 3 years has continued to open attendees eyes to the possibilities of how they can contribute to making a difference in elections. We look forward to bringing it to more students and activists across the nation.
