Grown-Up Conversation Needed

One element of this past election rests in the fact that our elected officials have spent vast amounts of public monies we don’t have and are stretching the financial house of this nation to its limit. Like a family with maxed out credit cards, the piper is due and we have little money to pay…

Grassroots and the Beltway

Today at RedState, Erick Erickson has a great post about the battle to limit earmarks and pork spending from Washington.  Most recently? Roads, bridges and interchanges should be exempted from the earmark moratorium, high-ranking officials protest.  It’s a great reminder that advocating for limited government must continue to be top-of-mind for all of us as…

Living in Flyover Country

I visited a close friend last weekend and sat next to a Chicago native on my flight back into Kansas City.  A sweet older gentleman, he asked, “What’s it like living in Kansas?”  I answered that it’s great if you like small towns, and that while I know it lacks the mountains of Colorado and…

Conservatives Need to Show Leadership

As we move into the next legislative cycle and calendar year throughout this country, conservatives need to step it up a notch. They need to get past the campaign mode and into the legislative mode. The American people are looking for leadership, they are looking for real solutions and if they don’t like what they see and hear, well, we know what happens next.

Wisconsin Conservatives – The Battle Has Just Begun

Conservatives won across the board in Wisconsin last night. But the battle has just begun. We cannot just assume that those who we elected will represent our conservative values because of their party identification. We must now hold them accountable. The liberals are not going to lie down and accept that Wisconsin is a conservative state. They are going to fight back. We cannot take time off or stop paying attention. The battle continues on to the spring local elections and then to the 2012 elections. Within 2 short months another important date will have arrived.

The End of the Tea Party?

Today, many of the incumbents and political elite who were mystified by the public uprising of the Tea Party are leaving office just as bewildered.  After nearly two years of rallies, activist, and electioneering the Tea Party Movement has done what many on the left and in the media thought impossible.  They united together on…

PHILOSOPHER KINGS FACING INEVITABLE DEFEAT: BLAME THE VOTER

In the closing chapters of election 2010, one conspicuous factor that stands out is the bizarre and obvious contempt the liberal Left has with the American voter. Upon his coronation, it was pronounced loud and clear by the new administration, mainstream media, and leftwing blogs that all subjects who reside within the kingdom be required…

Make Those Phone Calls and Knock on Those Doors!

If you truly want to be a difference maker in this election than you NEED to sign up for one or multiple get-out-the-vote (GOTV) shifts that SHOULD be readily available at the campaign rallies you are attending. Even though momentum is on the side of conservatives, races across the country at every level will go down to the wire. Reaching as many undecided or leaning voters through personal phone calls or door-knocking is of the utmost importance at this critical juncture for campaigns.

Transitioning from a National Mindset to a Local One

With the end of mid-term election season quickly approaching, nearly every poll, blog post, and even MSM news story has come to a similar conclusion: at least one house in Congress (and possibly both) is almost guaranteed to flip from one party to another.  And on a larger scale conservative and center/right candidates should also…

Wisconsin is a Conservative State

Recent polls have shown that the number of likely voters in Wisconsin who identify themselves as “conservative” is far greater than those who would use “liberal” or “moderate” as a label. It isn’t just one poll either. A McClatchey-Marist Poll (September 26-28, 2010) in Wisconsin found 47% of likely voters label themselves a conservative, compared to 20% for liberal and 33% for moderate. A CNN/Time Poll (September 17-21, 2010) showed 47% conservative, 19% liberal, and 32% moderate among Wisconsin likely voters. A Gallup poll showed the percentage of conservatives at 43% of Wisconsin likely voters.

The Universal Buzz Word – ACCOUNTABILITY

This election cycle has definitely been quite unique. Candidates carefully omit any party affiliation on their yard signs and push cards, hoping to avoid “that” question when going door to door. Political ads paid for by DC insiders try to hit all of the candidates on one side of the political aisle, telling me that…

Seeing the Light Born of a Dark Two Years

In the middle of October, 2008, when I still had my own personal blog (never again) I predicted that Barack Obama would win the Presidential election.  Though the poll numbers were still pretty tight at that point, the writing was on the wall as far as I was concerned.  Thus I conceded a month early…

Local Candidates: Are you Debating?

For many candidates the debate season has been in full swing for a couple of months now. Take our instance our governor’s race in Minnesota where there have been over a dozen debates so far and several yet to come. While this certainly is an outliner, what should be recognized is that candidates need to take advantage of opportunities to debate their opponent if they haven’t done so already. This particularly goes for those running at the local level, from school board to county commissioner, and certainly those running against incumbents.

Quitters Never Win

Just recently, I was speaking with an activist regarding the Tea Party group that he leads.  When I asked how things were going, more specifically, how he was doing, he responded with this statement: “I just can’t do this anymore. I was against the status quo when it wasn’t cool to be.  I’ve been working…
